Gut healing with Asafoetida Spice…
So a few months ago I discovered a spice I hadn’t heard of before and it’s amazing.
You can use it instead of onions or stock powder. It’s not hot at all, it just adds a depth of flavour. Particularly good in rice dishes or with chicken. Here’s one of my favourite recipes that uses the spice: New Recipe: All-in-One Chicken Biryani Curry
Last week I posted a recipe that used ASAFOETIDA or HING and I had several people ask me about it.
It’s funny I use asafoetida all the time now but I hadn’t even heard of it until a couple of months ago. A yellow spice with a warming onion flavour – not hot at all – and it adds a great depth of flavour and colour to a dish. Best of all you can just buy it from the supermarket. It was there on the shelves all the time I just hadn’t noticed it before. I got it from Sainsburys and it arrived with my online delivery!
I came across asafoetida when I was doing research for a book on gut health. It’s really useful as it can be substituted for onions and garlic in some recipes. I discovered that it has a lot of health benefits for your stomach too so if you do suffer at all it’s definitely worth checking out.
