I love to eat full fat yogurt. I eat it everyday for breakfast together with home-made choc chip granola. It has no added sugar or any additional ingredients and it is so naturally sweet and luscious.
For a long time I’ve only eaten full fat yogurt. I find it far more filling, tasty and satisfying. A breakfast with a good portion of natural yogurt really does fill you up until lunch. I have also removed all low-fat yogurts from my children’s diets. They now have natural yogurt with a teaspoon of jam stirred in – delicious! Interestingly when they get yogurt for pudding at school they say it is disgusting.
Less easy to quantify is the effect of regularly eating yogurt has on your digestion and gut bacteria. I generally feel that I am healthier when I eat proper yogurt daily and now there’s proof that you are not only healthier but happier too.
My ‘gut’ feel has at last been proven too with this study from the Journal of Nutrition which stated that women who consume full fat yogurt daily are 22% less likely to suffer from depression. It’s not a small study either. We’re talking about over 7000 women and nearly 10 years of study.
The data also showed that consuming lots of low-fat yogurt (which has a significant amount of added sugar) might even increase your risk of depression.
